Promissory Notes
Two notes are known from the Hiwassee Railroad in Athens, TN a $1 and
a $3. Both are listed as R-14 by Garland. The notes have two engraver
/ printers Danford, Underwood and Co., New York across at left and Underwood,
Bald, Spencer & Huffy, Philada. across at right. The notes are promissory
notes to be paid six months after completion of the railroad to the written
in person or the bearer. The reverse of both notes has a plain reverse.
The $1 displayed is hand dated 1 March, 1844.
